GREETING HABITS CHANGING WITH NEW MEDIA: BE HAPPY TO THE DAY OF EVERYONE

The sharing of important special occasions in interpersonal communication is a factor that strengthens the closeness of individuals. Today, celebration habits between communication technologies and individuals have changed. Especially for the reasons such as speed, cost and convenience, especially for the younger generation of people, more electronic environment is preferred than face to face communication. In this study, the habits of university students to send private messages in interpersonal communication were examined. The data collection form prepared by the researchers was applied to 323 students who graduated from Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University. The findings were subjected to factor analysis. 23 items form factor 6 has been reduced. These factors are called sharing, greeting, caring, reminder, face to face, and visit. While participants expressed that they sent in various kinds of celebration messages electronically, they received the highest average among the 23 items as "I would rather celebrate face-to-face special days instead of receiving messages via social media". As a result, new communication technologies offer quick and easy communication to individuals. Conversely, special messages in the form of celebrations are mechanized in social media and lose their meaning.
