MUSEUM TOUR IN SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATION: SAMPLE OF CAUCASIAN MILITARY HISTORY MUSEUM

Museums offer the opportunity to see and understand both the fundamental elements of a culture and the things happened in the past with the help of tangible objects by exhibiting art and scientific works. Museums are one of the places that can be used as an out-of-school learning environment in social studies subject. In this direction, this study aiming to determine the social studies prospective teachers’ opinions about using Caucasian Military History Museum as an out-of-school learning environment within the scope of social studies subject, has been carried out with 17 Social Studies prospective teachers. In this study where the qualitative research method has been used, case study pattern has been used based on the purpose of the study. In order to collect data, semi structured interview forms have been used. In order to explain the qualitative data obtained and reach to relations, descriptive, inferential codes emerging during the analysis have been used. In the study, according to study findings about what can be the reason for Caucasian Military History Museum is called “Bloody Bastion”, the fact that a great number of people were martyred in the past wars has been stated as the reason for this naming by social studies prospective teachers is noteworthy. In the study, it has been concluded that Caucasian Military and History Museum has contributed to social studies prospective teachers and environment, in the case of used as an out-of-school learning environment it can be beneficial to the students in several aspects.
