Abstract

Since today's digital technologies have changed the ways in which cultural goods are produced and consumed, analysis of consumer goods is one of the most significant activities in revealing the reflections of this change. Access to digital music, has increased to a great extent in the last decade thanks to music streaming services provided by various digital platforms. These changes have affected particularly the children who were born into a digital environment and use this, also called as digital natives. With this point of view, this study aims to carry out a content analysis of music listened by children in digital media. In this qualitative study, data were collected through document analysis method. For the data collection, searches were performed on video sharing sites of YouTube and Dailymotion to access audiovisual documents with labels of “children songs, listen to children songs, Turkish children songs, foreign children songs, and ‘children songs’ (in English)”. Then the results were filtered with criteria of upload date, type and sorting, and Turkish and foreign children songs that were viewed the most were selected. The selected songs were examined with regard to determinant qualities of a music piece which are vocalization, duration, lyrics and visual contents.
