EFFECTIVINESS OF SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM IN EARLY CHILDHOOD PERIOD APPLIED TO TEACHERS WORKING IN PRESCHOOL EDUCATION INSTUTIONS

The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the special education program in early childhood period offered to teachers working in pre-school education institutions. Research participants are 15 teachers from 8 different branches who work in a private preschool education institution affiliated to the Ministry of National Education (MNE) in Edirne/TURKEY. The research is action research from qualitative dimensional study designs. Based on the research problem, a needs analysis was conducted to determine the level of knowledge of teachers about special education and inclusion. In line with the needs analysis and the literature, 3 training modules are prepared in line with the 3 main objectives selected by using the Taba Model to increase the knowledge level of teachers about special education and inclusion. Modules prepared for education; basic concepts in special education and characteristics of individuals developing differently, behavior management in inclusive environment and effective adaptations, effective teaching adaptations in inclusive environment and preparing an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Research data collected with 1 demographic information form with 8 questions containing the demographic information of the teachers, 3 recognition forms containing 16 questions prepared specifically for each training module and presented before the module, 3 placement forms with 16 questions to be presented after the implementation, totally with 7 forms. Before the modules presented, teachers' pre-module knowledge levels were determined by a pre-application-level determination form containing 16 questions about the module. After the module implementation, the post-application-level determination form was presented to the teachers again and find out how the knowledge levels of the teachers changed at the end of the module were examined. The findings obtained as a result of the research were organized and conveyed within themes. The results obtained were interpreted in line with the relevant sources and made suggestions.
