ANALYSIS OF CLASS TEACHERS AND PARENTS' VIEWS ON CHARACTER EDUCATION IN PRIMARY SCHOOL IN TERMS OF VARIOUS VARIABLES

The aim of this study is to examine teachers' and parents’ views about character education in primary school in terms of various variables. In the study, in which the quantitative research method was adopted, the survey model was used. The universe of the study consists of classroom teachers working in the central districts of Gaziantep province in the 2018-2019 academic year and parents of students with primary school age children. Its sample consists of 604 classroom teachers and 630 parents. Data were collected with character education, teacher and parent scales developed by the researcher. The data of the research were analyzed with the SPSS 24 package program. While there was no significant difference according to gender in the "planning and implementation" and "proficiency and effectiveness" dimensions of the character education teacher scale, there was a significant difference in professional seniority and education status. In the dimension of "method-technique and evaluation", there was no significant difference according to gender and professional seniority, but a significant difference was found according to educational status. While there was no significant difference according to gender and age in the "school-family cooperation" dimension of the character education parent scale; significant differences were found according to educational status and socioeconomic status. While there was no significant difference according to gender, age and socioeconomic status in the dimension of "efficacy and effectiveness"; A significant difference was found according to education level. While there is no significant difference according to gender, age and socioeconomic status in the dimension of "social environment"; A significant difference was found according to education level. Considering the results of the research, while the views of teachers on character education in primary schools do not differ according to gender and professional seniority, they differ according to educational status. While the views of parents on character education in primary schools do not differ according to gender and age; differed by education level.
