EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND LIFE SATISFACTION OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS: THE MEDIATING ROLE OF SELF-ENHANCING HUMOUR STYLE

This study aims to discover the mediating role of self-enhancing humour in the relationship between school administrators' emotional intelligence and life satisfaction. Relational screening model was used in the research. The research sample consists of 378 school administrators, 105 females and 273 males, working in Avcılar, Çatalca and Esenyurt in İstanbul during the 2019-2020 academic year. Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale, Satisfaction with Life Scale and Humor Styles Questionnaire were used to collect data for the study. In the data analyses, firstly, the relationships between variables were examined through Pearson’s Correlation Analysis. Then, to test the model, structural equation modelling analysis was conducted to test the mediating role of self-enhancing humour style in the relationship between school administrators’ emotional intelligence and life satisfaction. SPSS and AMOS 23.0 statistical package programs were used for data analyses. According to the findings obtained from the research, a significant positive relationship was found between the variables of emotional intelligence, self-enhancing humour and life satisfaction. Self-enhancing humour style has a partial mediating effect in the relationship between emotional intelligence and life satisfaction. Emotional intelligence and life satisfaction can be positively increased by improving school administrators' self-enhancing humor styles with cognitive behavioral techniques or various psycho-educational programs.
