EXAMINING THE EFFECT OF COURSE DURATIONS ON LEARNING AND STUDENT SUCCESS

When we examine the education systems of countries with a comparative approach in terms of course durations, we can see that there are very different practices. In Turkey, this duration is determined as 40 minutes in a single session. After the 40-minute period, there is a break for approximately 10 minutes. When the education systems of developed countries are examined in terms of course durations, it is seen that they are mostly in the form of 45+45 minutes and 1.5 hour blocks in a single session. Students have 2-3 breaks or lunch breaks within their 6-8 hour daily schedule. In this study, which aims to determine the effects of lesson durations on learning and student success, the programs of secondary school students are taken as basis. In this regard, the time spent in terms of total lesson hours on a lesson basis and on a daily basis in developed countries and the time management of middle and underdeveloped countries constitute the main purpose of this research. The data of this study, which was conducted in a situation determination pattern based on qualitative research, was collected using a semi-structured interview form. It was determined that the data analyzed with the content analysis technique did not overlap in some respects between the teaching times of the countries at different levels.
