In the present research, it has been aimed to determine the level of fear of mathematics course among 4th grade primary school students, and the reasons lying behind the fear of mathematics course. It is a descriptive research conducted through the use of scanning model. The research was conducted with the participation of 172 4th grade primary school Students studying at public schools in a province of Central Anatolia in the spring semester of 2016-2017 academic year. In the research, data was collected through a survey, containing two questions; one closed-ended and one open-ended. Descriptive statistics (frequency and percentage) were used for the analysis of the closed-ended question, while descriptive analysis method was used for the analysis of the open-ended question. According to the findings from the research, it was determined that most of the students did not have fear of mathematics and the fear of mathematics emanated mostly from the course, then the students themselves, teachers and the environment. At the end of the research, various suggestions were made for the prevention and elimination of fear of mathematics.

Bu araştırmada ilkokul 4. sınıf öğrencilerinin algısına göre öğrencilerin matematik dersine yönelik korkusunun ne derecede olduğu ve matematik dersine yönelik korkunun altında yatan sebeplerin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu araştırma tarama modelinde betimsel bir araştırmadır. Araştırma 2016-2017 eğitim-öğretim yılı bahar döneminde İç Anadolu Bölgesi’nin bir ilindeki devlet okullarında öğrenim gören 172 ilkokul 4. sınıf öğrencisinin katılımı ile gerçekleşmiştir. Araştırmada veriler bir kapalı uçlu ve bir açık uçlu olmak üzere iki soru içeren anket formu ile toplanmıştır. Kapalı uçlu sorunun analizinde betimsel istatistiki tekniklerden (frekans ve yüzde), açık uçlu sorunun analizinde ise betimsel analiz tekniğinden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre öğrencilerin büyük bir kısmının matematik korkusuna sahip olmadığı ve öğrencilerin matematik korkusunun en çok dersten, sonra öğrencinin kendisinden, öğretmenden ve çevresinden kaynaklandığı belirlenmiştir. Araştırma sonunda ise matematik korkusunun önlenmesi ve giderilmesi için çeşitli önerilerde bulunulmuştur.
